Subject:
Still Trying To Put Shop/Garage Back Together

John McGaw
Well, the insulation wass sprayed in and the 5/8" drywall was put up and prepped. That left me to paint the ceilings and then undo all the disarray that was perpetrated in preparation. The garage half is more-or-less usable after the installation of some heavy steel shelving at one end but getting the shop side usable is still not going well. The four 8-foot double fluorescent fixtures bent like pasta when I removed them so I had to back them with 1/2" plywood to straighten and reinforce them before re-hanging them. The good news is that the shop is much brighter now that it has a white ceiling and the existing lighting gives me about 100 foot-candles at pretty much every work surface and machine and I still have one circuit left over for another fill-in light if I need it. The problem now is that there is a lot of cut-off wood stock that had been stashed between the ceiling joists and now there is no place convenient to put it now. Still mulling that one over so that the shop will be somewhat usable.
