I was fortunate in that I ran into a "deal" at the Indianapolis WW show a few years ago and purchased the 5000 for about the same price as the 3000 normal price. I really like the fact I can use it quickly then remove it to do other work on my Unisaw. The settings remain accurate and the sled quickly locks into the miter slot. I don't use it a lot but it is very accurate when needed. I can't compare it to the 3000 since I went directly to this unit. I have found though, that when I have tried to save a few bucks by not buying the top of the line, I always kind of regret it and wonder "what if I had the better unit". I have never regretted holding out and buying the best. When you figure out the cost divided out during the time you will be using the tool - normally it adds up to less than the cost of your coffee or cola.
