CHERRY AND MAPLE SPICE BOX Buying wood from local auctions is not only smart but affordable. SHOP OWNER: Patrick Coleman LOCATION: Volga, WV This is a spice box I made for my family's annual New Year's Eve bingo. My sister won it and was very pleased. It's made out of cherry and maple and has a Danish oil and wax finish.
The case is constructed with through dovetails and the drawers with half blind dovetails. It took about 40 hours to complete. This is my first attempt at a period piece. The hardware is from Whitechapel Ltd., of Jackson, Wyoming. The cherry was purchased at a local auction. I've purchased some very nice wood at auction lately, all of which sold for less than $1 a board foot. . . .
