ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?
A wooden version of this pigskin classic.SHOP OWNER: Aurele Delaurier
LOCATION: Winnipeg, Manitoba, CanadaThis is a recent project of mine. It is a replica of the football used in the Canadian Football League. The ball is full size, measuring 11-1/4" long and 6-5/8" in diameter.

It took 14 pieces of wood to make this football. This drawing shows the shapes of the pieces of wood, which consist of twelve pieces of walnut, and two pieces of maple.
![]()
This is how the pieces were glued together. The ebony valve stem was inserted at this stage.
![]()
After placing the glued up blank on the lathe, I turned it in a series of ¼-inch steps.

Finally, the football gets smoothed out.

This is the actual ball in a plastic case. The opening shot above shows the logo side of the ball.

This is the side of the ball with the ebony valve stem. The laces are made of maple, the valve is ebony, and I did the stitches and the logo using a wood burner. It was a fun little project.
