TRAIN TRACK TABLE / CABINET
On the right track for organizating a young engineer.

I built this table for my two-year-old son, Bernie. He loves trains and Santa got him this great Thomas The Tank Engine set-up. We bought the play board that the tracks can set on and looks like the town. He played with that for a while but it created a constant mess on the floor. So I decided to build a table/cabinet so we could get it off the floor and provide some storage space as well.
It is made from poplar and plywood. All the joints are mortise and tenon for strength. The banding around the table is also poplar that was mitered at the corners and reinforced with biscuits. I routed in the names of his four favorite trains, Thomas, of course, Gordan, Percy, and Toby. The two doors are lockable and the storage is divided by the center support brace.
This was an easy and inexpensive project. The quality and value is much better than the table they offer with the set for $199. Because of the popularity of these train sets, I hope this project will give you some good ideas for your own and lots of good memories. My son loves his train table his dad made just for him.. . .
