Northeastern Woodworkers Association
"Showcase 99"
Saratoga Springs Convention Center
Saratoga, NY
February 27-28, 1999

The 8th annual NWA show is history, but the two-day event was another smashing success for this ambitious and talented woodworking club. I was privileged to be involved in judging the competition for the fifth year and to meet and talk with quite a few of the craftsmen, club members and attendees.

In this short photo essay, I've included just a few photos of work submitted to the woodworking competition. In all, there were probably six or seven hundred pieces on display, in eleven categories, including three furniture categories, turning, carving, accessories, toys/models, marquetry/intarsia, and this year's theme category: "sports." This latter category attracted seven handmade boats, including the Best of Show winner, and many regional accessories including pack baskets and fly rods. Baseball bats were also well represented.

Anyone interested in joining the NWA or attending their events may visit their website at http://northeasternwoodworker.org/  for more information. Tell 'em WoodCentral sent you!
This beautiful lamp, made of spalted maple, ebony and holly,
was the first place winner in the NWA Showcase's turning category.
It was turned by Paul Petrie of Gloversville, NY. The turned walnut bowl
and carved plate are the work of Ron Mower of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
