Q: How do the messageboards work?
A: There are two ways to access the WoodCentral messageboards, but only one is officially supported: http://www.woodcentral.com/newforum/msgset.shtml. This page includes a red navigation bar at the left side of the page and a forum area at the right. The forum content space is further divided into a message index frame at the top and a message frame at the bottom. The index defaults to our main "Messages" forum, but you can choose any of our other forums from the list in the navigation bar. You may also choose our "No Frames" option if you want the appearance to more closely resemble the old Badger Pond setup.
If you access the messageboards through the "back door," e.g., www.woodcentral.com/cgi-bin/messages.pl?index (or ..."handtools.pl?index" for the Hand Tools forum, or ..."turning.pl?index" for the Turning forum), you are likely to encounter password or profile problems, because these are known software conflicts that occur when you use the back way into the messageboards.
If you get an "Invalid Password" notice when you try to post a message, or if you have other password or profile problems, it is almost certainly a problem with your WoodCentral cookie(s). One technique that seems to work is to 1) exit WoodCentral, 2) find and delete any WoodCentral cookies and then 3) reopen WoodCentral, making sure to access the messageboards via the official entry page.
